Mephistopheles Smith - Paul Roberts
Paul Roberts, former lead singer of The Stranglers, is an internationally accomplished vocalist, musician and actor whose extensive 25 year career has allowed him to perform across all mediums in Theatre, Recording, Concert, Film, TV and Radio worldwide.
He is probably best known for fronting the iconic major British band The Stranglers for 16 years, from 1990 – 2006. This period saw The Stranglers releasing 8 albums and 13 singles including Peaches, Heaven or Hell, Golden Boy and Big Thing Coming. Paul left The Stranglers in May 2006 after hitting the top of the charts again with the release of their highly acclaimed album Norfolk Coast.
Paul has recorded, written and appeared on over 30 albums and singles with artists including The Lightning Seeds, OMD and Nigel Kennedy. His work has been recorded with some of the best names in music including Alan Winstanley, Cenzo Townshend, Nicky Graham and Pete Glenister amongst others. Paul formed and still performs regularly with his band Soulsec
Concert appearances have seen Paul play to full houses in all major indoor arenas across Europe including the Royal Albert Hall, the Maison de la Radio and the Palais Royal, Paris. He was also chosen to perform at the British Grand Prix Ball in both 2002 and 2004 and has entertained the forces in the world’s ‘hotspots’ including the Falkland Islands, Bosnia, Belfast and Kosovo.
Paul has regularly guest featured on numerous national television and radio shows including LK:Today, GMTV, Good Morning Australia, The Jonathan Ross Show, MTV, Kenny Live and the Gaye Burn Show.
On stage Paul was honoured to appear in Imagine - A Tribute to John Lennon at the Cambridge Theatre in London’s West End and toured in his own tribute show to David Bowie. Paul’s progression to screen roles has recently included featured roles in the forthcoming film Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day and BBC’s The Cranford Chronicles.
Paul regularly appears across the UK with his 7 piece jazz/swing band 400 Swing doing their own arrangements of standards and classics. Paul is currently recording a new solo album.
