"Brothers and Sisters! Raise your hands in worship to the Evangelist For Hell, gracing us with hymns and devilish tales of his mission to tempt us down to Club Inferno!" - so sayeth Mephistopheles Smith in Richard (Rocky Horror) O'Brien’s witty, musical view of the world today and alternative ‘paradise!’ awaiting those who dare to follow. Mephistopheles Smith, backed by his two ‘Devilettes’, is the Evangelist For Hell – preaching about the virtues of living in Hell through witty comparison with life on Earth as we live it today. From an initial three song version performed by Richard O’Brien himself at the 1992 UK Rocky Horror Convention, the full show previewed at Edinburgh Fringe in 1995 and went on to run at The Comedy Theatre in London’s West End in 1996. The score features brilliant original songs and lyrics by Richard O'Brien - listen to some extracts at www.rockymusic.org |

Janus Theatre Company are the first UK theatre group EVER to re-stage Mephistopheles Smith, with Richard O’Brien’s personal permission to re-work and perform the show in 2007. The Company's much acclaimed previous tours have included multi award winning eastern block shock-rock musical ‘Hedwig And The Angry Inch’ from 2004-2006, which included Brighton & Edinburgh Fringe (***** Three Weeks, Critics Choice, Fringe Award Winner & Sell Out Show) and outrageous high energy disco extravaganza ‘Saucy Jack And The Space Vixens’ during 2006. Janus Theatre Company bring Mephistopheles Smith up to date with new topical jokes and extra touches of their own, which they hope Richard O'Brien fans will appreciate. But who better to summarize this hedonistic masterpiece of wit, wisdom and musical comedy than Mephistopheles Smith himself... click here to read his personal message. |
